What is a Future Log?

A future log is a one or two-page spread (see images below). The spread goes on the first pages of your planner. The future log includes monthly calendars with blank spaces to write down your future appointment and due dates.

How to Design a Future Log?

First, decide how you want your future log to look. Do you want the calendar to be on both sides of the pages or do you prefer to have all the calendars on one page?

The image below shows 6 different ways to design a future log in your bullet journal. The spreads need to be helpful for you!

Small notebooks hand drawn on the right side of the page.

Bullet Journal Future Log Ideas

Scroll down in the blog post as I made sure to include a variety of future log spreads to help you find some inspiration. The spreads are in no specific order, I suggest you scroll down through the blog post and pin the images that you love!

Individual calendar on the top of the paper. Each calendar title is highligthed with a pink, green, and neon highlighter. There are 3 Tombow Dual Brush pens at the bottom of the page.

The brush pens used in the spreads above and below are the Tombow dual brush pens. They are my favorite brush pens to practice hand lettering. Some of my favorite black pens for doodling are Pilot G2 Pens and Pilot B2 Pens.

The B2 pens have a truly-black ink color. The tip of the pens is a little bit thicker which makes titles and headers look beautiful! I use the G2 pens for everyday notes as the tip of the pen is thin/fine.

For the spread below, use Tombow pens to draw quick swatches around the page. With a black pen draw a couple of flowers over the swatches.

The highlighters used on the images above and below are Mildliners. They are smudge-proof and the colors are bright and beautiful! They are one of my favorite highlighters for doodling.

Don’t get intimidated by how elaborate some of the spreads are. Pick up your favorite pen and start tracing on your bullet journal, even if your doodles are not exactly as you expect them to be, you are taking the first step by practicing.

Every day doodle something different and practice the same doodles over and over again. From time-to-time go back to your planner to see how much your initial doodles have improved. Be proud of everything you create! It takes time to “perfect” your drawings.

If drawing is a little bit difficult for you, I recommend using Microsoft Word to print stickers and fonts. Follow the instructions on this tutorial to learn how to print stickers to use in your bullet journal.
