Procreate Tools
Before we get started, let me explain the tools I use in Procreate.
- I use the iPad Pro and the apple pencil. Any iPad that uses the Apple pencil will work.
- The picture below shows the basic tools you need to know for Procreate
Beginner: How to Use Brushes and Layers in Procreate
1. Save the practice worksheet on a cloud folder (Files folder, Dropbox, or OneDrive).
2. Open the Procreate app > in the top-right of the screen, click “import” > find the hand lettering worksheet and click on it.
3. Go to the layer’s tool > click on the “+”
4. Go to the brush tool > select a new brush. I love the Procreate Mega Bundle brush set by Alexis Gentry. It includes brushes for hand lettering and for drawing. Other awesome places to find brushes for the Procreate app are the Creative Market and Design Bundles.
If you need help installing the brushes, check out this tutorial.
5. Go to the color pallet and select a color. Use 2 finger to zoom in. Use the brush size tool to increase and decrease the size of the brush. Start from the left side of the word. Put less pressure to create thin strokes and more pressure to create thick strokes.
Use two fingers to zoom out, your hand lettering worksheet should look like the image below. Do not try to perfect the strokes or lines. Enjoy tracing over the letters, the more you practice the easier hand lettering on the iPad becomes.
